Description

Tascam IF-MA64EX 64-channel Redundant (In/Out/Thru) Coaxial Interface Card

The TASCAM IF-MA64/EX is a professional MADI expansion card that adds bidirectional optical and coaxial MADI connectivity to compatible TASCAM digital mixers and multitrack recorders.

It supports up to 64 audio inputs and 64 audio outputs at 44.1 or 48 kHz, or up to 32 inputs and 32 outputs at 88.2 or 96 kHz. A dedicated coaxial THRU connection passes the incoming coaxial MADI signal to another device, even when the host equipment is switched off.

Key Features

  • Up to 64 MADI input channels
  • Up to 64 MADI output channels
  • Up to 32-input/32-output operation at 88.2 or 96 kHz
  • Optical MADI input and output
  • Coaxial MADI input and output
  • Dedicated coaxial MADI THRU output
  • 75Ω BNC coaxial connections
  • Duplex SC multimode optical connection
  • AES10-2008 MADI format
  • Supports 56-channel and 64-channel MADI modes
  • Supports 28-channel and 32-channel double-speed modes
  • Input LOCK indicator
  • Powered internally by the host device
  • Compatible with the TASCAM Expansion Slot system

Compatible TASCAM Equipment

Compatible models include:

  • TASCAM Sonicview 16
  • TASCAM Sonicview 16XP
  • TASCAM Sonicview 24
  • TASCAM Sonicview 24XP
  • TASCAM DA-6400
  • TASCAM DA-6400dp

Compatibility may depend on the firmware version installed in the host device.

Channel Configuration

At 44.1 or 48 kHz

Using a 48k MADI frame:

  • 56-channel mode
  • 64-channel mode
  • Up to 64 inputs
  • Up to 64 outputs

At 88.2 or 96 kHz

Using a 48k or 96k MADI frame:

  • 28-channel mode
  • 32-channel mode
  • Up to 32 inputs
  • Up to 32 outputs

The available channel count depends on the MADI channel mode and sampling frequency selected on the connected equipment.

MADI Coaxial Input

Connector:

  • BNC

Impedance:

  • 75Ω

Digital format:

  • AES10-2008 MADI

The coaxial input accepts multichannel MADI audio from a compatible digital console, recorder, router, stage box or converter.

MADI Coaxial Output

Connector:

  • BNC

Impedance:

  • 75Ω

Digital format:

  • AES10-2008 MADI

The coaxial output carries the MADI channels assigned by the compatible TASCAM host device.

MADI Coaxial THRU

The dedicated BNC THRU connector passes the signal received through the MADI COAXIAL IN connector directly to another MADI device.

The THRU connection continues passing the incoming signal when the host device is switched off. The signal may, however, be interrupted briefly when the host equipment is powered on or off.

This makes the THRU connection useful for:

  • Backup recording systems
  • Splitting one MADI source between two recorders
  • Daisy-chaining compatible equipment
  • Broadcast redundancy
  • Live recording backup systems

Optical MADI Input and Output

Connector:

  • FDDI duplex SC

Supported fibre:

  • 62.5/125 µm multimode optical fibre
  • 50/125 µm multimode optical fibre

Digital format:

  • AES10-2008 MADI
