The TASCAM RC-W100 is a programmable wall-mounted remote controller designed for the TASCAM MX-8A matrix mixer and other compatible TASCAM installation products.
It provides convenient local control of audio-source selection, zone volume and muting without giving users access to the system’s advanced DSP and routing settings. This makes it suitable for conference rooms, restaurants, retail stores, hotels, schools, houses of worship and other commercial audio installations.
The controller features four programmable buttons, a rotary encoder with push-button operation and an illuminated display showing the selected source and current volume level. Its available functions are configured by the system installer using TASCAM MX Connect software.

- Powered by the connected mixer
- Two RJ45 connectors
- Uses shielded Cat5e or higher network-type cable
- Two wall-box size variants available
- Low power consumption of 0.24W
Controller Functions
The RC-W100 can be programmed to provide selected end-user controls, including:
- Choosing an audio source
- Increasing or decreasing the output volume
- Muting the selected output
- Unmuting the selected output
- Displaying the active input-source name
- Displaying the current output-volume setting
The installer determines which controls are available. This helps prevent staff or general users from accidentally changing the MX-8A’s microphone gain, DSP, output processing or matrix-routing configuration.
Physical Controls
Programmable Buttons
The front panel has four programmable source-selection buttons.
Their functions depend on the source-selection mode configured in TASCAM MX Connect.
Multi-Jog Encoder
The rotary multi-jog encoder can be used to:
- Turn clockwise or anticlockwise to adjust volume
- Press to mute the volume
- Press again to unmute the volume
The encoder’s rotation and push-button functions can be enabled or disabled by the system installer.
Source-Selection Modes
Mode 1: Direct Source Selection
In Mode 1, each of the four front-panel buttons can be assigned directly to an audio source.
Up to four sources can be selected immediately by pressing the corresponding button.
Mode 2: Screen-Based Source Selection
In Mode 2, users can browse and select from as many as eight programmed audio sources using the display and front-panel controls.
This mode is suitable for systems requiring access to more than four playback sources.
Display
The RC-W100 has an illuminated display that can show:
- Selected input-source name
- Current volume level
- Muted status
- Source-selection status
The backlight switches off automatically when the controller is not being operated, reducing unnecessary illumination in meeting rooms, restaurants and other installations.
Compatibility
The RC-W100 is designed primarily for:
- TASCAM MX-8A eight-channel matrix mixer with DSP
- Other TASCAM products specifically listed as RC-W100 compatible
The controller should only be connected to a compatible TASCAM RS-485 controller port. Connecting it to an electrically incompatible RJ45 socket could cause a malfunction or damage.
TASCAM MX Connect Configuration
The controller’s functions are programmed through TASCAM MX Connect configuration software.
The installer can configure:
- Source names
- Available audio sources
- Source-selection mode
- Volume-control availability
- Mute-control availability
- Encoder functions
- Button functions
- Output zone controlled by each RC-W100
- Maximum and minimum user-accessible levels
The RC-W100 is intended for daily end-user control, while detailed setup and DSP configuration remain protected within MX Connect.
Multi-Controller Systems
Up to eight RC-W100 controllers can be connected to one compatible mixer.
Controllers are connected sequentially in a daisy-chain arrangement using shielded Cat5e or higher cable. Each controller must be assigned a unique identification number from 1 to 8.
Maximum total cable length:
- 200 metres from the mixer to the final controller
The termination switch must be activated on the last controller in the chain.
Connections
Connectors:
- Two RJ45 sockets
Connection format:
- RS-485
Recommended cable:
- Shielded Cat5e or higher
The two connectors allow the controllers to be daisy-chained. Either connector can be used for the incoming connection from the mixer.
Important Network Notice
Although the RC-W100 uses RJ45 connectors and Cat5e cable, its connections carry TASCAM RS-485 control and power signals.
The controller should not be connected to:
- A standard Ethernet network switch
- A computer network port
- A router
- A standard Power over Ethernet port
- An incompatible RJ45 controller system
The RC-W100 is not an Ethernet or IP-network controller.
Power Requirements
The RC-W100 receives power from the connected MX-8A or another specifically compatible TASCAM mixer through the RS-485 connection.
Power consumption:
- 0.24W
